Who Do You Think You Are?
I am super excited the second season of Who Do You Think You Are? starts this Friday! What a rare treat it is for there to be a show on TV about genealogy!  The celebrities featured this season are: Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Rosie O’Donnell, Steve Buscemi, Kim Cattrall, Lionel Richie, Vanessa Williams and Ashley Judd. Now, if our local NBC affiliate can manage to not preempt any of the...

Hodgepodge
It’s getting icy outside. I just sprinkled stuff to melt ice on the deck and stairs for the dog. The snow is supposed to start tonight or tomorrow. They’re still fiddling with the forecast numbers for both ice and snow.  Today I received an e-mail from Panera Bread that they’ve loaded a free drink on my reward card. It’s good for one coffee, tea or soda. I love free! In...

The Calm Before The Storm
My daughter and I ran a few errands yesterday afternoon, which included stopping by a frozen yogurt shop. I love that place because it’s self serve. There’s a wall of dispensers of different kinds of frozen yogurts and sorbets. Then a counter of things you can add. The amount you pay is weight based. I did a small amount of no sugar added blueberry frozen yogurt and added some fresh...

Blue Skies
What a nice change it was this morning to be greeted with a blue and clear sky! I will try not to think about the possibility of ice and snow early next week. I love the changing of the seasons and I prefer cold weather to hot, but I am looking forward to mild spring weather so I can open the windows up. I love a fresh breeze. After throwing dishes in the dishwasher and tinkering with the...

Hello, Weekend
Another good day. I did very well with what I ate for breakfast and lunch. Then we had dinner with my brother and his wife at a Mexican restaurant. I had two cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. Of course, chips and salsa. Oh, well. Bonus was I paid for dinner with the money I had from selling two things on craigslist this afternoon!  This evening I entered the yellow flower photo in the photo...

Greetings and Salutations!
Today was a better day than yesterday! Let’s immediately get out of the way the fact I ate a horrible lunch, that is if you’re considering calories when grading a meal. To balance it out, I have a pot of cabbage soup simmering. I don’t think there’s any calories in the entire pot.  I went on a trail run this afternoon. A bit abbreviated because I got a late start and...

Today I took a rest from running. I finally did some yoga. Two episodes of Namaste Yoga. The stretching felt really good. I need to do it daily. When you do it regularly, you notice right away improvement with flexibility and balance in the poses.  No organizing again. I almost feel under the weather. I’ve been going to bed early. Hopefully, I’ll will feel better and not come down...

Monday, Monday
Excellent day today! I did a great job with what I ate, which included some yummy cream of celery soup I made from scratch but is not high in calories.  The temperature was above freezing, so I ran four trail miles this afternoon. I was listening to a LibriVox recording of Walden by Henry David Thoreau (http://librivox.org/walden-by-henry-david-thoreau/). These four miles were in addition to...

A new week has started and I have a fresh focus on eating within my calorie limit. I think I blew it nearly every day last week.   The high temperatures this week are supposed to be at or just above freezing every day. I can’t wait to hit the snow covered trails!  I made good progress today with the three big containers of cords, cables and related equipment. Most of the time was spent...

Yesterday evening after running I ended up being a vegetable on the couch. Worn out from the week.  The inch or less of snow last night didn’t materialize, but they are forecasting accumulating snow tonight and into tomorrow. Maybe a couple inches. I ran seven miles on the treadmill this morning while being distracted by The Tudors. I’m looking forward to temperatures closer to or...

Freezing Friday
It’s cold here in Missouri. We’re expecting less than an inch of snow tonight and apparently more Sunday into Monday. No estimates being forecasted yet.  I just ran six miles on the treadmill.  Thank you Netflix for making it bearable. I’m working my way through the first season of The Tudors. Seasons one and two are available for viewing online.  Yesterday evening I put five...

Onward and Upward
This week has not been good with either diet or running. Too many indiscretions with what I’ve eaten — every day so far! Plus, I planned the rest day from running on Monday but did not expect to not be able to run yesterday. Frustrating!  The remainder of the week I will lower my calorie intake and push to run extra miles. It’s too bad the weather isn’t cooperating and I have to do it on the...

Wednesday Wrap Up
It’s snowing and by the time all is said and done tomorrow, they say we can have anywhere from 6 - 8 inches. They haven’t called off school yet, but it’s inevitable. The company I work for rarely closes due to snow. I luckily don’t have a commute because I work from home.  Today I made lentil soup. My daughter and I took some over to my mom this afternoon. She loves it and enjoys when I bring her...

Moving Along
Today I rounded up all the empty storage containers I could find and washed them. I also washed the pile of orphaned lids. Then I matched up as many containers and lids I could. I still have a lot of lids without containers (and two containers without lids) but I’m going to save them for now until I know I’ve located any remaining around my house. I used large storage containers and further...

Matching Up
As I’m sorting, I am coming up with the following that need to be matched up with what corresponds to them.  Lids - I have a crazy pile of orphaned lids of various sizes. Where are all the storage containers?  Electronic Equipment and AC Adapters - Telephones, answering machines, internet routers and other pieces of equipment no longer being used. I have more AC adapters than equipment.  ...

Mixed Bag Sunday
Nowhere near anything that remotely resembles a hair stylist, I trim my mom’s hair in between her perms. Thank goodness she gets an all over super curly perm that is very forgiving of my trimming. That’s what I did this morning.  Upon returning home I did a little organizing, which included starting a new bag of clothes and a box of stuff for Goodwill.  It wasn’t pretty, but I...

Basement Purging
Today I took two garbage bags of clothes and two boxes of other stuff to Goodwill. I also removed some trash and recycling from the basement. I’m taking things out of old cardboard boxes and organizing them into storage containers. The sell pile is growing!

Getting Organized [Part 2]
I’ve been doing some hot and heavy organizing in the basement this evening. I took a brief break to go to the store to get some storage containers. As I was going through stuff, I realized I need to add one more sorting category:  recycle.  Here’s the updated list: keep trash sell give away recycle I’m getting ready to wrap it up for the evening.

Snow Covered Trail
Since the temperature crept above freezing today, I took the opportunity to go on a trail run. The snow covered trails and cold added some difficulty but all in all it was invigorating. With everything covered in snow it was almost like being someplace I had not been before.

A Treasure (Re)Discovered
During a sorting session in my basement yesterday I discovered a treasure. Actually, I rediscovered something that had been in a box for years and I had forgotten about. It’s this vintage plastic sewing box. Isn’t that a wonderful shade of green? The photo doesn’t do it justice. This didn’t make it into the keep pile. It went directly upstairs where I put my most...

Is Your Refrigerator Running?
One evening I went to the refrigerator and it was off. That gave me a not so happy feeling in my stomach. I rolled it out from the wall and found the GFCI outlet had been tripped. So, I reset the outlet and the refrigerator turned back on.  A number of hours later I heard the outlet trip again. The pattern I noticed was it would trip the outlet whenever the refrigerator would stop running.  I...

Challenge Accomplished
I did indeed get up this morning before work and ran three miles on the treadmill. I am so surprised because yesterday evening I did a second three mile run after doing one in the afternoon. I had expected that I would hit the snooze until my usual get up time for work. I did, however, go to bed earlier last night to help with getting up earlier. Let’s see if I can do it again tomorrow. What...

Getting Organized
I’ve decided before I begin making stuff for my Etsy shop, I need to do some organizing. For awhile we’ve been in the process of redoing rooms in our 1950’s ranch style house. As we go along, since we are redoing everything — ceiling, walls, trim and floor, each room gets emptied out and completely reorganized. So, the main floor of our house isn’t an immediate...

Morning Run Challenge
I have challenged myself to get up early tomorrow morning and run three miles before work. My goal then is to do it every day. That way I can get it out of the way early in the day and then I may have the motivation later in the day to walk or run some more. God, grant me the willpower! Are you challenging yourself?
